Today is Fathers Day and my daughter thought of celebrating it in Food Fest of World Cuisine scheduled to be held at JLN Stadium, in Delhi. But at last minute we came to know that it has been cancelled. The most nearest place was Khan Market where there are lots of Cafe, Bistros, fine dine Restaurants. Since we have not visited any Parsi Restaurant before, we decided to go head straight to most popular one in town offering Authentic Parsi cuisine. Ms Anahita Dhondye, Chef Manager of Soda Bottle Openerwala outlet at Khan Market and Gurgaon, won the Rising Female Chef of the year 2017. It is said, “being a Parsi she brings in the Trademark   Flavour of Parsi food in these two restaurants”.  And now after having food, I completely agree to this statement.  Dont get distracted by their signboard in the front side, like most of the restaurants in Khan Market, this has entry from the rear side.

Rustic decor, bistro kind of ambiance. All electrical  pipes running across  the ceiling, decorated with antique broken cameras, wall hangers, blazer stands and what not. Wooden themed interiors with no cushions or fancy tableware.

There was no waiting and we were lucky to get the only  empty table in the corner, near a window. Since it has entry  from the rear side, the view was not pleasant, but it was not disappointing. The interior, decor was treat to our eyes. The floor manager immediately attended us. Since it was our first trial for a Parsi food, we were asking , every details of the food on the menu. Although it was a busy hour yet he explained everything very penitently. In starter we decided to order, Aloo Aunties Veg.Cutlis,  famous Chicken Farcha. 1st one is veg cutlets made out of mashed and spiced, potato, carrots, beetroot, beand and some greens, must be spinach. The 2nd one is fried chicken. In both outer crust was crispy and succulent , juice from inside. The Farcha was served in a mini aluminium suitcase, which reminded me of  my childhood. It was similar box in which I used to keep my dolls things. I never thought that food could be served in this way.

In mains we ordered their signature dishes, Mutton Berry Pulao, Salli Chicken and Bhendi Bazar Sheekh Paratha. Berry Pulao is served on the  thick mutton gravy topped with crispy fried onions, cashew nuts and dry cranberries which gives a sweet flavour to the pulao and that makes it signature dish. It was different, mild in flavour and good in taste. What I could gather from the flavour that rice is not washed in water before cooking, may be for not loosing its flavour. I am not sure about it, I forgot to ask from the attendant. They use aluminium utensils for serving. IMG_20170618_153152

Chicken Sally is gravied item. Primary flavour is of  onion and tomato. Chicken pieces were succulent and gravy was not over spiced mild in favour. This dish was topped with thin crispy potato fries just like bengals aloo bhaja.

Bhendi Bazar Sheekh is Seekh Kebab served on a crispy fried Paratha with onion rings and green chutney. Paratha was tastier than the seekh.

Repeat order was placed for pulao and aloo cutlis. We were full but the attendant told about the kulfi and thought of ordering it. It was amazing, caramalised flavour was awesome.

Overall experience was great. We thoroughly enjoyed the food. I am not sure about Vegetarian dishes but , I am sure it will be equally great. They have good options of mocktails and wines beside other drinks.

Portions are small but the prices are reasonable. Average, Rs.1000/- per head.  One thing one must appreciate is their initiative to employ deaf and dumb people, male female(dikra & dikri in Parsi)  as waiters and have wonderful way of sharing it with the customers. Kudos… IMG_20170618_141425
