Prawn & Cauliflower Curry


This is one of the popular winter dishes from the eastern region in India especially Bengal. Combined Flavour of Cauliflower with fresh prawns takes this dish to another level.

  1. Cauliflower florets – 10
  2. Medium size prawns- 10
  3. Ginger paste – 1 tspn
  4. Green Chilis – 2
  5. Cumin seeds – ½ tspn
  6. Bay leaf – 1
  7. Green Cardamom – 2
  8. Cinnamon stick – 2” long
  9. Clove – 3
  10. Cumin powder – ½ tspn
  11. Coriander powder – ½ tspn
  12. Red chili powder – ½ tspn
  13. Turmeric powder – 1 tspn
  14. Fresh tomato – 1 (pureed)
  15. Salt  to taste
  16. Oil 3 tblspn
  17. Desi Ghee/clarified butter- 1 tspn


Wash the florets thoroughly inrunning water. Sprinkle little salt &  turmeric powder and keep aside.

De-shell (preferable with tails) & de-vein the prawns and wash them in running water thoroughly.

Heat   oil,   add Bay leaf, whole cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and jeera one by one. Stir till aromatic. Add the florets & fry in medium heat till light brown. Make a paste of jeera powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, ginger  with little water and pour over the fried cauliflowers in the pan. Give a nice stir so that masala is nicely amalgamated with cauliflowers. Now put the prawns, stir again and cover the pan and cook for 2-3 mins.  By this time the prawns will emit its juices which will mix up with the cauliflowers.  Uncover and cook in medium flame and keep stirring in between. However, you must keep a watch that cauliflowers should not be overcooked otherwise it will loose its crunch and spoil the dish. After two mins add pureed tomatoes and stir on high flame till the masalas starts sticking to the bottom.    Add Ghee, water, slit green chilis, and cook covered in medium flame for 2-3 mins or florets are soft.

Serve with roti/Paratha/Steamed Rice/Peas Pulao.
